Sonal Kalra Biography

Sonal Kalra is an Indian journalist and author. Now she is associated with daily, Hindustan Times. Kalra is a gold medallist from the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi. She has also received numerous awards for her contributions to the field of journalism and mass media. She is a recipient of Ramnath Goenka award for Best Film Journalist, 'Outstanding contribution to Journalism' award 2009 from the World Punjabi Organisation and Excellence in Journalism award 2010 and 2012 by International think tank GPS. Entertainment, Art and Lifestyle are her many areas of contribution. She published a book, ‘A Calmer You and More of a Calmer You’ based on her columns which gives witty tricks to get free of tensions.


Sonal works as a journalist and feature writer since 1996. Sonal serves as the head of Entertainment, Art and Lifestyle sections of supplements of ‘HT City’ in New Delhi and HT Cafe in Mumbai. Her weekly column ‘A Calmer You’ in HT City made her a popular columnist. She has contributed columns to lifestyle publications on decor, health, wellness, fashion, food, beauty & fitness and travel. Apart from her published book, ‘A Calmer You and More of a Calmer You’ based on her columns, she has co-authored ‘E-Government Toolkit for Developing Countries’. Her column, India's answer to single entry portals published in Indian government website was presented and published at the International Conference on Digital Government Research 2008, Montreal.


HT Power Couples series is one of her notable works where she interviewed the five most powerful couples of Bollywood for the first time ever at their homes. She interviewed the popular couples - Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan to the latest, Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
