Surekha Yadav Biography 
Surekha Yadav is a female locopilot of the Indian Railway, who became the first female train driver of the country. She achieved this feat in year 1988. She also became Asia’s first woman to pilot suburban train when she made her first journey. She also drove the first "Ladies Special" local train for Central Railways, when it was introduced in the metros in year 2000. She became Asia's first woman train driver to drive the Deccan Queen from Pune to CST on the International Women's Day in 2011. The opportunity was given as a special honour to her.
Her maiden name is Surekha R. Bhosale. Her name is addressed as Surekha Shankar Yadav or simply Surekha Yadav after her marriage with Shankar Yadav. She was born in Satara, Maharashtra in 1965 to Sonabai and Ramchandra Bhosale. She was born into a farmers’ family, and is the eldest of 5 siblings. She schooled from Saint Paul Convent High School, Satara. Later she took a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from the Government Polytechnic at Karad. During her younger days she wanted to become a teacher. But when she received job from railways at the age of 22, she accepted it.
Yadav was interviewed by the Railway Recruitment Board, Mumbai, in 1987 and got selected. She joined the Central Railway as a trainee assistant driver and trained for 6 months. When she joined service, it was pretty clear that she is to become the first woman train driver of the country. She became a regular assistant driver in 1989. She became a goods train driver in l996 and after two years, she turned a full-fledged goods train driver. In 2010, she became a ghat driver on the Western Ghat railway line and in 2011 she was promoted as an express mail driver.
