George Reddy Biography 
George Reddy was a research student in physics at Osmania University, in Hyderabad, remembered primarily for his promotion of Marxist ideas. In 1972 at the age of 25, he was found dead in a student hostel, which received media coverage back then. A series of events led to the e formation of the Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU), a student body within the college campus. It was one of the best instances of how state politics affected the life of a student leader. He was famously known as the Che Guevara of Hyderabad.
His death later became inspiration to student movements as well as books and movies. On the occasion of 40th death anniversary of George in 2012, a short documentary film about his life, titled Crisis on the Campus, was premiered. A book titled Reminiscences of George Reddy's was also released in the occasion. A biopic based on George's life titled George Reddy released in 2019. Sandeep Madhav played the titular role in the movie, directed by B. Jeevan Reddy. The movie opened to positive reviews from critics. Suriya’s character in Aaytha Ezhuthu (Ajay Devgan in Yuva) was loosely inspired from his life. The movie was directed by Mani Ratnam.
George Reddy was born in Palakkad, Kerala on January 15, 1947. Leela Varghese and Raghunath Reddy were his parents. He reached Osmania University for his research works. While at college, as a student leader he worked for the welfare of the poor and fought against the discrimination at various stages. He was a university gold medallist and a trained Boxer. He died in a student hostel by right-wing elements at university due to revolutionary movement. He later became a true inspiration to students belonging to future generations.
