Kanwal Singh Chauhan Biography 
Kanwal Singh Chauhan is an Indian farmer who has been honoured with the fourth civilian honour Padma Shri in 2019 by government of India. He is an entrepreneur has given a new direction to the farmers through his farming techniques. He started cultivating, and discovered a way to earn profits and now government of India honoured him with Padma Shri. He showed how income can be multiplied by farming. He also exports his products to other countries. Leaving traditional farming on their land in the village, he first started farming of mushroom and baby corn in 1998. Though it was risky, he gained success through the farming of mushrooms and baby corn.
Kanwal Singh Chauhan is a resident of village Aterna in Sonipat district in Haryana. He encourages people to join him with self-employment and to get a new achievement in the agriculture sector. He started farming at the age of 15 following the death of his father. Due to lack of knowledge of agriculture, he went to drown in debt. But the loss in farming didn’t prompt him to give up. Instead he decided to fight. He started farming of mushroom and baby corn, which he succeeded. It also inspired other farmers to follow the same suite. With proper co-ordination, several farmers from nearby villages also came forward and got into the cultivation of mushroom and baby corn, which earned them big profits.
He also supplied 200 jobs, and got into export business as well. He initially began with 2 acres of baby corn farming. Now about five thousand farmers are indirectly associated with his firm. He wants youth to come forward to this agricultural sector. His cold chain project in HSIIDC is about to start soon, which can benefit more farmers. He is also nicknamed, ‘Father of baby corn in Haryana’.
