Anny Divya Biography

Anny Divya is an Indian pilot from Pathankot, Punjab who currently holds the record of world's youngest woman commander to fly a Boeing 777. She achieved this feat at the age of 21.She started her career with Air India at the age of 19 soon after completing her training course. She travelled to Spain for training and flew a Boeing 737, thus becoming world’s youngest woman pilot to fly a Boeing 777. She was sent to London for further training at the age of 21, and she started flying the Boeing 777. Divya gained the title of commander at just 30 years old.

 

Anny Divya hails from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh. She was born in 1987. Divya was educated at the Kendriya Vidyalaya. She had a very humble beginning and her parents were very supportive. Though a lot of people were telling them not to send her for flying lessons, her parents supported Anna’s childhood fascinations and dreams to become a pilot. Since young she loved clouds and her mother suggested her to become a pilot to see clouds close. When Divya grew up in Vijayawada, she decided to give wings to her curiosity. Years later she boarded an aircraft to begin her pilot training course. She grew up in south India, and later moved to culturally different Uttar Pradesh as a teenager.

 

She joined the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, a Government-run pilot training institute in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, soon after secondary studies. To support her dreams, her parents took bank loan to pay 15 lakh rupee tuition fees for the two-year course. She was hired by Air India when she was 19-year-old, right after she graduated. She made headlines for being the youngest woman to command a Boeing 777, the world’s largest twin-engine jet.
