Vishweshwar Bhat Biography
Vishweshwar Bhat is a well-known writer, journalist and editor from Karnataka. He earlier served as editor of Vijaya Karnataka and Kannada Prabha newspapers and the television channel Suvarna News. He is associated with Kannada language as journalist and editor. He is the founder and managing director of media firm, Vishwakshara Media Pvt. Ltd. He also re-launched Kannada daily Vishwavani, and currently serves as its editor in chief. Bhat has also authored 64 books in Kannada language.
He was born on 22 July 1966 in Murur village of Kumta, Uttara Kannada district, Karnataka. After completing his PG in Geology, he took to journalism. He completed MA journalism with gold medal. Later he worked as an assistant professor at Asian School of Journalism for a brief period and also officer on special duty to Minister Ananth Kumar. Later he had a full-fledged career in journalism, beginning the association with Kannada Prabha. He served as sub-editor of Kannada Prabha daily for four years. Then he joined Vijaya Karnataka – a Kannada daily belonging to the Times group of India, where he resigned as editor in 2010. He cited pursuing higher studies as the reason for quitting.
He rejoined Kannada Prabha as the editor-in-chief of the newspaper. Kannada Prabha is the fourth leading newspaper of the state. Almost at the same time, he started blogging. He has also published several books in the regional language. In between, he also had a stint of 4 years with Asian School of Journalism when it was launched by Express group. In 2012, he was one among those journalists who were targeted by terror suspects for harbouring anti-Islamic sentiments.
