Thenkachi Ko. Swaminathan Biography

Thenkachi Ko. Swaminathan was a former Deputy Director of "All India Radio" and a noted author who has published many books in Tamil. He was a host of the daily programme Indru oru Thagaval on All India Radio and popular as a story narrator. The collection of his Indru Oru Thagaval talk show was later published in 25 volumes and the entire remuneration that he got through this work was given to charity by Swaminathan. Swaminathan died on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 after a brief illness aged 67.

 

Thousands of people across Tamil Nadu had a usual habit to wake up listening to his voice every morning for many years. His popular daily programme ‘Indru oru Thagaval’ on All India Radio (AIR) is still remembered by millions of radio listeners. He always used to end his program with some humorous piece, which listeners always were eager to. It was the trademark of his program. He also conveys a message through this show. This hit program was broadcast for 12 years in All India Radio from 1988. his communication skills, use of simple language, and a subtle sense of humour made this show a huge success. He joined the AIR in 1977 and retired as Deputy Station Director.

 

He completed graduation in agriculture from the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University in Coimbatore. Then Swaminathan worked as an Agricultural Extension Officer for a few years. He has also served as the panchayat president of his native village Thenkachi in Perambalur district. In 1977, he joined AIR and became a popular anchor. Throughout years he entertained people in several ways and has also served as its Deputy Director.
