Nikhil Advani Biography

Nikhil Advani is a successful young director of Bollywood at present, who is better known for his debut movie - Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) – a love triangle starring Shahrukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta n lead roles. The movie was a blockbuster hit with evergreen songs, which won many awards at different award functions. But after that he directed a series of flops and finally returned to momentum with action spy thriller D- Day in 2013. This movie was well-praised by the critics and it starred Arjun Rampal, Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor and Huma Qureshi in lead roles. However the movie couldn’t make it big at box office and was declared a flop.

He belongs to Mumbai, born in a business family. His father did Pharmaceutical business, while his mother was in advertising field. He started his career as an assistant director in the year 1996. For the first time, he worked with Sudhir Mishra for the National award winning movie - Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin. Later he joined Dharma Productions and worked as assistant of Karan Johar for his first two projects – Kuch kuch hota hai and kabhi khushi kabhi ghum. He also did a cameo appearance in Kuch kuch hota hai.

As an independent director, his first work was Kal ho na ho, which was produced by Karan Johar himself, under his home productions. It was one of the biggest hits of Dharma Productions till now, which gave career breakthrough for both Saif Ali Khan and Preity Zinta. This single film placed his name under established directors of Bollywood. However his next releases, Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love (2007), Chandni Chowk To China (2008) and Patiala House (2011) brought his career graph down. In 2012, he made India's first stereoscopic 3D animation feature film, Delhi Safari which was released in English and Hindi.
