Anushka Shetty Biography

Anushka Shetty is a very popular actress associated with south Indian cinema, best known for playing the lead role of princess Devasena in the Telugu blockbusters – Baahubali series directed by Rajamouli. She was seen in a pivot role in Baahubali: The Beginning (2015) while she rose to the prominent role in its sequel, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion. She was lauded for her performance both as princess and mother of Bahubali in both the parts. Her titular role in Rudrama Devi (2015) as the princess also earned her critical acclaim and Filmfare Award for Best Telugu Actress. She appears in Telugu and Tamil cinema, and is one of highest paid south Indian actress all-time.

Anushka’s real name is Sweety Shetty. Tommulu is her nickname. She hails from Mangalore, Karnataka. Puttur is her hometown. She was born on 7 November 1981 to the couple, Prafulla and A.N. Vittal Shetty. She has two brothers. She completed her studies in Bangalore, and she also worked as a yoga instructor prior to her entry in films. Anushka made her acting debut in Puri Jagannath's 2005 Telugu film ‘Super’ at the age of 24. She earned her initial recognition through S. S. Rajamouli's Vikramarkudu, released in 2006 which was a major success. It was followed by Asthram.

She made her Tamil film debut through Rendu in 2006, where she was paired with Madhavan. After that she fully concentrated in Telugu films till 2010. Vettaikkaran (2009) is the only Tamil release in between. Since 2011 she gives equal preference to both these industries. Apart from Baahubali series & Rudrama Devi, Lakshyam, Souryam, Chintakayala Ravi, Arundhati, Vedametc are some of her best known performances in Telugu, while Singam, Singam II, Yennai Arindhaal, Vaanam, Deiva Thirumagal and Inji Iduppazhagi and Si3 are her major hits in Tamil. Up-to-date Bahubali remains her most successful and memorable performance, where she was paired with Prabhus. In fact both the parts received critical acclaim and created new bench marks for box office success and special effects.

She is a recipient of the prestigious Kalaimamani, Nandi Award and Filmfare Awards (south). Arundhati (2009), Vedam (2010), and Rudramadevi (2015) earned her maximum awards in acting category. She received Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu for all these three major roles of her career. In the recent times, after the big success of Bahubali: The Conclusion, she has been linked up with her co-star Prabhus. But both the stars have denied the rumours. The duo has worked together in 5 movies, and their fans want to see them get married.
