Raj B. Shetty Biography

Raj B. Shetty is a film actor, director, and screenwriter who works in Kannada cinema. He shot to fame with 2017 blockbuster film Ondu Motteya Kathe, scripted and directed, and also played the lead role of a bald man in the movie. The film won the Filmfare Award for Best Film in Kannada, and was remade into Malayalam and Bollywood in year 2019 with titles – Thamasha and Ujda Chaman. While the Malayalam version was a commercial hit, Hindi version which faced competition from Bala based on the same theme of baldness failed terribly at box office. The movie gave him a great entry to Kannada cinema in three roles - film actor, director, and screenwriter.

Raj B. Shetty hails from Mangalore. He was a radio jockey before starting his filmy journey. He worked at Big 92.7 FM in Mangalore and later had stint in Kannada theatre before joining films. Once he approached director Suhan Prasad with an idea to do a short film, which proved to be a turning point of his life. He suggested him to do a full length movie instead of a short film, which Shetty agreed. Suhan Prasad also co-produced the movie aside Pawan Kumar, and the movie proved to be a big hit in 2017. The story got easily connected with audience, and accepted him as a hero.

After that he started receiving more acting roles from Kannada cinema. In 2018 he scripted the movie, Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale, Kasaragodu, Koduge: Ramanna Rai which was also a commercial hit. As an actor he appeared in the movies, Ammachi Yemba Nenapu, Mahira, Gubbi Mele Brahmastra, Katha Sangama and Mayabazar 2016. His role of a petty thief in most recent flick, Mayabazar 2016, his first release of 2020 was well received.
