He is the younger brother of Bollywood hit filmmaker Nasir Hussain, best known for his association with Asha Parekh, R. D. Burman and Majrooh Sultanpuri. Tahir’s younger son Faisal Khan, nephew Tariq Khan and grandnephew Emraan Khan are also familiar faces of Bollywood, playing lead and supporting roles. His daughter Nikhat Khan is a film producer, who produced Tum Mere Ho, the single movie of Tahir as a screenwriter and director. Tahir Hussain was born in 1938 in Shahabad, UP. Following his elder brother’s footsteps he too reached Bollywood, and initially assisted Nasir Hussain. Since 1961 he was associated with his elder brother, playing cameo roles in his movies, and also played the role of production executive of 1966 super hit, Teesri Manzil. He played cameo roles in Jab Pyar Kise Se Hota Hai and Pyar Ka Mausam, both starring Asha Parekh in lead roles.

As a film producer, super hit ‘Caravan’ marked his debut as a hit film producer in Bollywood. After a few years, when the movie was released in China, it received warm response and also became highest-grossing foreign film in China. He produced Anamika – the musical hit. However most of his movies flopped at box office throughout 1970s and 1980s. Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke starring his son Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla became a huge hit towards the end of his career.
