Preity Zinta Biography

Preity Zinta was born into a Hindu Rajput family in Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh. Rajputs are known for their bravey and strength. And an incident as a child brought out this spirit in her from within. Her father, Durganand Zinta, was an officer in the Indian Army. He lost his life in a car accident when she was just 13 years old this accident also let her mother Nilprabha, severely injured and bedridden for two years. At 13 this tragedy was a significant turning point for her in her life, which forced her to mature faster than other of the same age. They were three siblings in all. She has two brothers, one elder and one younger.

 

She graduated from a boarding school at 18, a total tom boy as she recalls herself. Preity Zinta then enrolled at St Bede's College in Shimla. She graduated from college with a degree in English honors, and then started a graduate program in psychology. But after a postgraduate degree in criminal psychology, she took up modeling.  She then did various television commercials the first one being for Perk and later on for Liril.

 

From the very start of her career in Bollywood she was teased by friends of being a typical actress wearing a white sari and dancing in the rain, this always made her take different roles in movies right from the start.  Her first movie was Dil Se by Mani Ratnam. She then did two Telugu films, Premante Idera and Sangharsh.

 

Her first Hindi film as an actress was ‘Kya Kehna’ which turned out to be a hit. It addressed issues like single parenthood and teenage pregnancy. She later came out to win critics and viewers hearts with her role in mission Kashmir starring opposite Hrithik Roshan and Sanjay Dutt. Later winning positive reviews for her work in ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was just a feather in her cap.

 

Preity then came through a phase where her career rocketed sky high. She did commercially successful films like Koi Mil Gaya, Veer-zaara and Kal Ho Naa Ho. She received further success in 2006 with films like Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Since then she has not had a great ride in Bollywood, and is more into parallel cinema. The media loves her for her straight forward attitude and replies. She has also been a part of major controversies in and around the country, but managed to wriggle out unharmed. She now owns an IPL team which was bought along with Beau Ness Wadia. There is a buzz that they have separated now.
