Milan Luthria Biography

Milan Luthria is a very popular director and hit maker of Bollywood at present. Once upon a time in Mumbai, The dirty picture and Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai Dobara are his most popular and successful films. The dirty picture was the top movie of the year 2011 while Once upon a time in Mumbai was praised for its script as well as a unique and new talent in direction. He is a director whose movies are both critically and commercially successful at box office and audience always expect it big from his movies – either it’s action or acting. His movies are also known for best performances of its actors. Vidya Balan of Dirty picture and Ajay Devgan of Once upon a time have delivered their best and have won much critical acclamation as well.  Milan Luthria is the son of the story teller of suspense stories of yesterdays – Raj Khosle who is known for suspense thrillers like CID, Woh kaun thi, Sadhana, Kaalapani and Mera Saaya. He is interested in telling stories of robbers, dacoits, dons etc and ajay Devgan has been a part of his majority of projects.   

Milan Luthria started his film journey in the 90’s as the assistant of Dharmesh Darshan. His first movie was Lootera released in the year 1993. Luthria made his directorial debut in 1999 with the action thriller film Kachche Dhaage starring Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali khan and Manisha Koirala in leading roles. This movie was moderate success in box office too. His second project too starred Ajay Devgan in the leading roles. It was Chori chori where Rani Mukherjee played leading role. But this movie flopped at box office. A couple of years later, he delivered a successive flop – Deewar.  Though the movie starred Amitabh Bachchan in leading role and his successful movie title – Deewar has been coined again, it couldn’t help the movie from drowning in box office collection.

In 2006, he directed Taxi number 9211. This movie was the first one to become a commercial and critical success both. After that we witnessed Milan in a new avatar delivering many powerful movies of present times. He has also directed Hat trick, a flop movie at box office.
