M. Gautham Machaiah Biography

M. Gautham Machaiah is a popular journalist and media personal from Karnataka. He is equally successful in print, internet and television media. He began his career with The Indian Express and later worked with The Times of India, and Zee Group. Now he holds Head of Southern Regional channels position with the Zee Group. Gautham has handled several important assignments at the Zee Group and his major areas include corporate affairs and communication, public affairs, government relations and corporate social responsibility.

 

His schooling was done at St Joseph's College, Mercara of Coorg followed by Sri Ramakrishna Vidyashala, Mysore. He did his pre-university course at the Government PU College, Madikeri and was awarded a Merit Certificate by the Government of Karnataka. Then he joined the Maharaja's College, Mysore and completed his Bachelor's degree in Journalism. Then he took post-graduate degree in Journalism and Communication and was awarded a Ph.D degree by the Mysore University for his thesis, “Media Habits of Legislators: A Case Study of Karnataka MLAs and MLCs.”

 

As a columnist, his first article was published when he was studying in class 9. The Indian Express published his article on the scarcity of drinking water in his hometown, Mercara edition. After the completion of post-graduation, he started publishing articles and columns in all leading newspapers. He underwent an internship of two months at The Indian Express, in New Delhi while at college. As a journalist, he started his career with The Indian Express, in Bangalore, under the editorship of H.S. Balram. His weekly column ‘On the Campus’ became popular among students, academicians and administrators. Later he worked with The Times of India before joining Zee Group.
