Khalid Mohamed Biography

Khalid Mohamed is a veteran journalist and film critic. He has also written a few screenplays and directed a few movies as well. Among his movies as a director, Fiza released in 2000 is his most noted work in which he casted Karishma Kapoor and Hrithik Roshan as siblings. This critically acclaimed movie gave Karishma Kapoor her second Filmfare award as well. Fiza was the second release of actor Hrithik Roshan. He has been one of the leading editors of Filmfare magazine and has also worked with Hindustan Times. He is the son of yesterday actress - Zubeida Begum. Khalid Mohamed wrote the screenplay of Shyam Benegal’s Bollywood movie Zubeidaa in 2001 and this movie is based on the life of his mother Zubeidaa. The title role of this movie too was played by actress Karishma Kapoor.

He studied at Cathedral and John Connon School Fort, Mumbai. He lost his mother in an airplane accident at the age of 2. His father had already migrated to Pakistan and hence no connections. He was brought up by his maternal grandmother and her sister and hence he started believing women to be the strong sex, though not physically. The director believes that direction has made him a better critic. His film career started with screenplay of Mammo in 1995, which was loosely based on his grandaunt.

This journalist-turned-director has directed four movies in Bollywood, wrote their scripts as well. This director is known for portraying women in strong characters – Karishma Kapoor in Fiza, Tareekh with Raveena Tandon (unreleased), Silsiley with Tabu, Bhumika Chawla and Riya Sen and Tehzeeb with Shabana Azmi and Urmila Matondkar. Fiza was his debut movie as a director, which was a moderate success at box office.  Tehzeeb is about the troubled relationship between a mother and two daughters – Diya Mirza and Urmila.
