Tabu Biography 
Tabu is an Indian film actress and acted in many Hindi films as well as films of other languages. She got National Film Award for Best Actress twice and has won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Female Performer four times. She is known for acting in low budget art films rather than in box office hits. Though some of her films gained commercial success her role in those films were not significant. She received Padma Shri award of the year 2011.
She was born on 4th November 1970 in Hyderabad. Her full name is Tabassum Hashmi. Her parents are Jamal Hashmi and Rizwana. Her parents divorced after she was born. Her maternal grandparents worked as professors and her mother was a school teacher. She studied at St. Anns high school in Hyderabad and moved to Mumbai in 1983 and studied there at St. Xavier’s college for two years. She has one elder sister Farah Naaz. The famous actress Shabana Azmi is her niece.
She appeared in the film Bazaar in 1980 as a child artist, then in the film Hum Naujawan in 1985 in the role of Dev Anand’s daughter. She acted as heroine for the first time in the Telugu film Coolie No. 1 with Venkatesh. She acted with Sanjay Kapoor in the film Prem and also acted in Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. Her role in the film Vijaypath won her Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.
Her significant films are Saajan Chale Saasural, Jeet, Maachis, Kalapani, and Kadhal Desam. The film Maachis won her National Film Award for Best Actress. Her Tamil film Kaadhal Desam was highly successful. Her Hindi film Border with Sunny Deol was the biggest hit of 1997. Some other films that she acted are Biwi No. 1, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, Hera Pheri, Astitva, Chandni Bar, Ninne Pelldutha, Maqboo, Faana,etc. Her first Hollywood film was The Namesake.
