Jairam Ramesh Biography 
Jairam Ramesh is an active politician belonging to Indian national congress. He is also known as an economist. Since 2004, he serves as MP representing Andhra Pradesh state. He became Minister of Rural Development in 2011 and held an additional charge of the Minister of Rural Development. But with the cabinet reshuffle in October 2012, he was taken off the additional power given earlier. He has also served as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) at the Ministry of Environment and Forests from May 2009 to July 2011. He is known for his trademark, white khadi churidar and kurta and has remained in headlines as India’s chief climate change negotiator. He represents the new ideal of congressmen.
He was born on 9 April 1954 in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. He is a mechanical engineering graduate from prestigious IIM, Mumbai. He has also received a Master of Science in Public Policy and Public Management from Carnegie Mellon University. He was strongly influenced by Jawaharlal Nehru and his modern approach to life since childhood. Many of his principles have been deeply influenced by Nehru ideologists and Gandhian thoughts. Another person’s books which he loves to read were Tagore. He is a founding member of the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad.
After a brief assignment in World Bank in 1978, he returned to India the following year. Later he worked as an economist for many years and has also participated in many economic reforms. He served as the advisor to the Prime Minister in 1991 and has also worked under finance minister, Manmohan Singh during Narasimha Rao’s ministry. After that he has served several decorative positions like Deputy Chairman of the Karnataka Planning Board and Economic Advisor to the government of the state of Chhattisgarh.
