Shaktikanta Das Biography 
Shaktikanta Das is a retired IAS officer from Tamil Nadu cadre, who has been appointed as the 25th governor of the Reserve Bank of India on 12 December 2018. Formerly he served as a member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission of India and India's Sherpa to the G20. He was appointed as the governor of the Reserve Bank of India soon after Urjit Patel resigned the position siting personal issues. Das has been appointed for a period of three years. He served as Fertilizers Secretary of India during 30 December 2013 – 15 June 2014, Revenue Secretary of India during 16 June 2014 – 31 August 2015 and Economic Affairs Secretary of India during 31 August 2015 – 28 May 2018, thus holding many key positions for the past few years.
Shaktikanta Das hails from Bhubaneswar, Orissa, and was born on 26 February 1957. After school education from his hometown, he moved to Delhi for higher studies, where he completed his BA and MA degrees from St. Stephen's College. He joined Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in Tamil Nadu cadre in 1980 batch and served in various positions for both the Government of India and the Government of Tamil Nadu till his retirement. Principal Secretary (Industries), Special Commissioner (Revenue), Secretary (Revenue), Union Economic Affairs Secretary, Union Revenue Secretary, Union Fertilizers Secretary, joint secretary in the Department of Expenditure of the Ministry of Finance etc are some of the positions held by him in state and national level administration.
As an administrator, Economic Affairs Secretary of India, Revenue Secretary of India and Fertilizers Secretary of India are some of the elite positions held by him. Post retirement, he was appointed a member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission by the ACC, and was a member of India's Sherpa to the G20 before being appointed as governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
