Chanda Kochhar Biography 
Chanda Kochhar is the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer of ICICI Bank. This is the second largest bank in India and largest private bank of the country. She is the head of the Corporate Centre of ICICI Bank.
Chanda Kochhar was born on 17th November 1961 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. She moved to Mumbai later on and joined Jai Hind College and obtained Bachelor of Arts degree. Then she pursued her Cost Accountancy course at Institute of Cost and Works Accountants of India and acquired Masters’ Degree in Management Studies at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai. She got the Wockhardt Gold Medal for Excellence in Management Studies and J. N. Bose Gold Medal for highest marks in Cost Accountancy. She married Deepak Kochhar and has a son and a daughter. She is at present living in Mumbai.
She joined ICICI limited in 1984 as a Management Trainee. She took part in the core team to set the bank in 1993. She became Assistant General Manager in 1994 and Deputy General Manager in 1996. She headed the infrastructure industry group of ICICI in 1996 and in 1998 she headed the Major Client Group that handled the top 200 clients of ICICI bank. The retail business was started by ICICI under the leadership of Chanda Kochhar in July 2000. She became the Executive Director of ICICI bank in April 2001.
She was appointed as Deputy General Manager of ICICI bank in April 2006. She is also working as the director of different ICICI group companies. She is appointed as the CEO and MD of the bank from May 2009 for a period of five years.
Her hard work made ICICI Bank win the Best Retail Bank in India Award for the year 2001, 2003, 2004 and 2005 and Excellence in Retail Banking Award for the year 2002, both of them issued by The Asian Banker. She also got the Retail Banker of the Year 2004 award. The Economic Times offered her Business Woman of the Year 2005 award and Retail Banker International gave her Rising Star Award. She was honored with Padma Bhushan Award by the Government of India in the year 2010 for her services.
