Isher Judge Ahluwalia Biography 
Isher Judge Ahluwalia is an Indian economist and author, who currently serves as the Chairperson of Board of Governors, the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations. She was honoured with Padma Bhushan in 2009 for her contributions for Literature and Education by the Government of India. Her husband Montek Singh Ahluwalia is an Indian economist and civil servant from New Delhi who served as Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India till end of UPA government in 2014. He was also the first Director of the Independent Evaluation Office at the International Monetary Fund.
Isher Judge Ahluwalia was born on 1 October 1945. She holds a PhD from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Stanley Fischer was her Doctoral advisor. She specializes in the fields of Urban and Industry. She has participated in numerous policy debates, and still active in the same field. She married her fellow economist Montek Singh Ahluwalia, and the couple has two sons.
She authored a book on Indian Economy, "Industrial Growth in India: Stagnation since the mid-1960s", for which she received Batheja Memorial Award for best book on Indian Economy in 1987. She has also authored many other non-fiction books such as Productivity and growth in Indian manufacturing, India's economic reforms and development: essays for Manmohan Singh, Urbanisation in India: challenges, opportunities and the way forward, Transforming our cities: postcards of change etc.
As an economist and advisor, she has held many administrative positions, serving as Chairman or Director. She currently serves as the Chairperson, Board of Governors, the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations and also is the Member of National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council.
