Thulasi Nair Biography

Thulasi Nair is a Tamil film actress who appeared in two movies in the recent past in lead roles - Kadal (2013) and Yaan (2014). She marked her acting debut with Mani Ratnam’s Kadal in 2013, and later in the directorial debut of Ravi K. Chandran. Both the movies were panned by critics and failed miserably at box office. After two flops, she is yet to accept a third project. She is the daughter of south Indian actress of 1980s, Radha Nair, and younger sister of Karthika Nair. Noted actress Ambika is her aunt.

Thulasi Nair was born on 20 October 1997 in Thiruvananthapuram. She belonged to a filmy family with many members linked to film world since late 1970s. Her mother Radha Nair, elder sister Karthika Nair and aunt Ambika are successful actresses of south Indian film industry, working in all the four major languages. Thulasi got the first offer to films at the age of 14, when her name was recommended by Suhasini to her husband Mani Ratnam, for his next flick, Kadal. But the director initially rejected her noting she was "too young for the role". But when Samantha walked out of the project, Thulasi was chosen to play the lead role opposite Gautham Karthik.

She had to shed 12 kms for the role, and she also attended a series of pre-production workshops conducted by actress Kalairani before the first schedule. She portrayed the role of a young nurse in her debut flick. Music of Kadal composed by A. R. Rahman was widely appreciated. However the movie met with commercial failure. It received mixed reviews only. But her role was widely praised. Yaan (2014) was her second release, which was panned by critics. She was paired with Jiiva for this action thriller.
