Prakash Raj Biography
Prakash Raj is an Indian film actor who has won many awards for his excellence in acting. He has worked in films of many languages like Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. He usually appears in antagonist roles and character roles.
Prakash Raj was born on 26th March 1965 in Puttur in Karnataka in a Bunt family. His original name is Prakash Rai. His father’s name is Manjunath Rai and his mother’s name is Swarnalatha. He has one sister and one brother named Prasad who is also acting in films. His mother tongue is Tulu. He completed his schooling from St. Joseph’s Indian High School in Bangalore and completed his degree in commerce from St. Joseph College of Commerce. He was interested in acting since his college days and so he has participated in many plays.
He fell in love with Lalitha Kumari and married her in 1994. She is the sister of the actress Disco Shanthi. The couple has two daughters named Meghana and Pooja and one son named Sidhu. His son Sidhu died in 2004. The strained relationship between Prakash Raj and Lalitha Kumari led to their divorce in 2009. On 24th August 2010, he married the choreographer Pony Verma.
He started his career in acting through the Doordarshan series in Kannada language such as Bisilu Kudure and Guddada Bhootha. He then started acting in supporting roles in films and the film Duet by K. Balachander turned to be his debut movie in Tamil and this was his first major role. The Telugu film Okkadu was a megahit and he started getting many offers after its success.
He also has produced many movies and majority of them were hit films. He usually produces family entertainers and some of his successful ventures are Dhaya, Naanu Nanna Kanasu, Puttakkana Highway, Akasmaath, Abhiyum Naanum, etc. He has also directed some films including the film Dhoni.
He has acted in more than 300 films including Kannathil Muthamittaal, Dhaya, Idiot, Kalki, Priyam, Vaanavil, Iruvar, Anthapuram, Nuvve Nuvve, Khadgam, Chokka Thangam, Okkadu, Gangotri, Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi, Tagore, Ghilli, Anniyan, Sivakasi, Bommarillu, Mozhi, Pokkiri, Kotha Bangaru Lokam, Kanchivaam, Abhiyum Naanum, etc.
