Reema Lagoo Biography

Reema Lagoo is a Bollywood actress most popular for ‘mother’ roles in Bollywood. Her most memorable movies include – Hum aapke hain kaun (1994) where she played the role of Madhuri Dixit’s mother and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) where she played Juhi Chawla's mother. She played Sridevi’s mother in the movie Gumraah of 1993 and Priety Zinta’s mother in Kya Kehna (2000). Thus she has played the mother role of almost all leading actresses of Bollywood. She has been successfully paired with a lot of movies along with Anupam Kher.

Same is the case of leading actors too – Saajan, Meine pyar kiya, Kal ho na ho and Kuch kuch hota hai. In Saajan she played the mother’s role of Sanjay Dutt and Salman Khan, while she played the same role in Shah Rukh’s movie – Kal ho na ho. Her other memorable roles include - Rihaee, Pyar ke tarane, Yeh dillagi, Aakrosh, Hum Saath-Saath Hain: We Stand United, Judwaa, Aashique, First Love Letter, Henna, Shola Aur Shabnam, Jeena Marna Tere Sang, Shreemaan Aashique, Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, Sangram, Rangeela, Deewana Mastana, Papa Kahte Hain, Prem grand, Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate, Nischay, Sapne Sajan Ke, Dil hai betaab, Prem diwane, Patthar Ke Phool and Vaastav: The Reality. She was seen as either Salman’s mother or mother-in-law of majority of her successful movies of which Saajan, Nishchay, Meine pyar kiya, Patthar Ke Phool, Pyar ke tarane, Shaadi Karke Phas Gaya Yaar, Hum Saath-Saath Hain and Judwaa need special mention. She has been a successful part of majority of Rajshree films’ movies directed by Sooraj Bharjatya.

Reema Lagoo has been nominated 4 times in Filmfare awards for best actress in a supporting role. Those movies are Vastav, Hum aapke hain kaun, Meine pyar kiya and Aashiq. Yet she was not able to win it at least once. Yet she is the most popular actresses of today if film makers search for mother’s role. This habit has been started long back in 1988 with Qayamat se qayamat tak and with Meine pyar kiya in 1989. When it comes to mother’s role of Bollywood, she is simply the best choice!
