Mustan Burmawalla Biography

Mustan Burmawalla is the brother of Abbas Burmawalla and together they have formed the successful director duo of Bollywood, Abbas Masthan, most popular for suspense and action thrillers. When Abbas – Mustan movie is to be released, audience always expect something different from their previous projects and they have always surprised the audience with fresh stories, sudden twists and strange treats. Their movies are always filled with suspense that holds people to seats till its end and majority of tehm have always witnessed a sudden U turn somewhere in the story. They have also attempted love stories and family dramas and the surprise hit of Chori Chori chupke chupke starring Salman Khan, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji in the leading roles is the best example.

 

Abbas Mustan has directed 14 Bollywood movies till now of which Baazigar, Khiladi, Soldier, Humraaz, Aitraaz, Race and Race 2 are most popular. Their other movies include – Ajnabee, Players, Naquaab,36 China town, Mr.Fraud, Tarzan the wonder car, Badshah and Daraar. They have played a significant role in shaping the careers of Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Akshay Khanna and Bobby Deol. Apart from Gupt, all suspense thrillers of Bobby Deol belong to this director duo.

 

Abbas Mustan started their career through Gujarati movies, in assistant directors’ role. Their first independent project was released in the year 1985 - Sajan Tara Sambharna. Their first released Bollywood movie was Agneekal (1990) starring Raj Babbar, Jeetendra and Madhavi. Their first major hit was Khiladi released in the year 1992 with Akshay Kumar, Deepak Tijori and Ayesha jhulka in the leading roles. It began the Khiladi series of Akshay Kumar. Their next released movie was Baazigar released in the year 1993 starring Shah Rukh Khan, Shilpa Shetty, Kajol in pivot roles. Both these movies helped this director duo to stay in Bollywood as established directors.  They never produced countless movies. Instead they give preference to scripts and its quality and that’s the main reason why their movies always cash money at box office.

 

Their flopped movies are Tarzan the wonder car, 36 China Town and Players. They have been nominated for best director at Filmfare twice for the movies – Soldier and Humraaz, though they couldn’t win it till now.
