Kamal Hassan Biography

Kamal Hassan is an Indian actor, screenwriter, producer and director. He is very popular for his versatility of his acting. He won a number of Indian film awards for his talented acting. He has his own film production company named as Rajkamal International and this has produced many of his films. He has completed 50 years in Cinema field successfully. Sathyabama university conferred Honorary Doctorate for his skills.

 

Kamal Hassan was born on 7th November 1954 in Paramakudi. His father is Srinivasan Iyer and his mother is Rajalakshmi. His two brothers are Charuhasan and Chandrahasan. He married Vani Ganapathi and after divorcing her married Sarika who is living separately now and has two daughters Shruti and Akshara. He studied at Holy Angels School in T. Nagar. His debut film was Kalathoor Kannamma in which he acted as a child star. He was only four at that time and won him National Film Award for Best Child Artist.

 

He re-entered the film industry through the film Maanavan in 1970. Then he appeared in many supporting roles. In Arengetram by Balachander in 1973 he did a notable role. He did negative roles in films Sollathaan Ninaikkiren and Gumasthavin Magal. Then he had his participation in films like Aval oru thodar kadhai, Naan avan illai, Apporva Raagangal, etc.

He consecutively got three Best Actor awards for the films, Manmadha Leelai, Oru Oodhappu Kan Simittukirathu, and 16 vayathinile. Most of his films are grand success. He did also did good in comedy role. His notable films are Apporva Sagodharargal, Guna, Thevar Magan, Avvai Shanmugi, Hey Ram, Thenali, Panchathanthiram, Pammal K. Sambantham, Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu, Vasool Raja MBBS, Mahanadi, Aalavandhan, Anbe Sivam, Virumaandi, Dasavathaaram and Manmadan Ambu, etc.

 

His acting career continues through four decades. He is notable for his talented acting skills. He had played a number of different characters in his films. He appeared in movies of six languages, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi and Bengali. He is not only an actor but also a comedian, singer, dancer, director and producer. He has won National Film Award for Best Actor for his three films, Nayagan, Indian and Moondram Pirai. He also got best actor award at the Asian Film festivals held in 1983 and 1985. He won on a total of 171 awards. He has declared himself as an Atheist in movies and in public.

 

Kamal made his return on Star Vijay TV, hosting the first season of Bigg Boss Tamil in 2017. The show soon went onto become one of the most watched television series in Tamil Nadu and gained positive reviews among audience. Haasan also hosted the second season of Bigg Boss Tamil 2 which started its telecast in 17 June 2018 and Bigg Boss Tamil 3 which started its telecast in 23 June 2019.

 

Kamal formed the Centrism party Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) (meaning: People Justice Center, website: https://www.maiam.com/), a regional political party in Tamil Nadu. He formally announced the party's formation on 21 February 2018 in Madurai. The party's flag displays six joined hands in a circle in alternate red and white colours with a white star at its centre in a black background. Haasan began his political journey from late President A. P. J. Abdul Kalam’s residence and his memorial at Rameswaram. His party contested in 37 seats in 2019 Indian general election and lost all. Makkal Needhi Maiam's vote share in the 2019 Lok Sabha election was 3.72%.
