Sivaji Ganesan Biography

Sivaji Ganesan was an Indian film actor. His original name is Viluppuram Chinnaiah Pillai Ganesan Manrayar. He is a legend in the Tamil film industry. He was born on 1st October 1927 in Viluppuram, India. He was affectionately known as Nadigar Thilagam.  He acted in films of many languages like Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada. He had worked in more than 300 films.

 

Chinnaiah Manrayar and Rajamani Ammaal are the parents of Sivaji.  Kamala Ganesan is the wife of Sivaji Ganesan and they had four children. Prabhu is the youngest son of them who is a famous actor in the Tamil Cinema.  His elder son Ramkumar owns a film production company named Sivaji Productions which was established by Sivaji.  Shanthi and Thenmozhi are the daughters of Sivaji.

 

Before stepping into the cinema industry, he was a stage actor in the dramas. His native place is Surakottai in Tanjore district. His talented acting in the play Shivaji Kanda Hindu Rajyam gained him the character name of Sivaji. His debut film in Tamil is Parashakthi in which the dialogues are written by M. Karunanidhi. In an International film festival, he won the Best Actor Award. He received the most honourable Dada Saheb Palke Award for his talent and hard work in the film industry. He has won the president awards for many times.

 

He won the Best Actor Award for the film Veerapaandiya Katta Bomman in an Afro Asian film festival. He acted in nine different roles in the film Navarathiri and three different roles in Thirisoolam. The film Mudhal Mariyadhai gave him the Film fare Best Actor Award and Tamil Nadu State Film Award. In 1999, he worked with Rajinikanth for the film Padayappa and it was his last film. He also took part in politics for a short period.

 

He won Film fare Best Actor Award in 1973, 1974, and 1996 for the films Gnanaozhi, Gauravam and Mudhal Mariyadai.  He was honored with Doctorate degree by the Annamalai University in 1986 and had won Kalaimaamani Award and NTR National Award also. His birthday has been declared as Actors Day in the Tamil film industry.

 

Sivaji Ganesan Award is an award given to the Best Actor Category, declared by the Government of Maharashtra. He died on 21st July 2001 in Chennai. A statue of Sivaji Ganesan was placed in Chennai by the Ex-Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in the year 2006.  His death was a great loss to the Tamil Cinema and he was praised as the Gem of Tamil film Industry.
