Jean Paul Lal Biography

Jean Paul Lal is a young director of Malayalam cinema who debut with ‘Honey Bee: Its Tripping..’ in 2013 which was a huge hit. The movie starred Asif Ali, Bhavana and Baburaj in lead roles. He is the son of popular actor-director Lal, of Siddique-Lal duo. Lal played the main villain’s role in Jean Paul Lal’s debut directorial venture, Honey Bee. Same year he made one short film – Debt with his father in lead role which Kerala State award for best short film. He has also done a cameo role in his father’s directorial, Cobra in 2012 which starred Lal and Mammootty in lead roles. He is to join hands with his Lal and hero of his debut movie, Asif Ali for another venture titled, Hi I Am Tony. Mia George plays the female lead.

Jean Paul Lal is born to Lal and Nancy on 2 June 1988. He is also known as Lal Junior. He completed graduation from New York Film Academy. He married most recently in December 2013 to Blessy Susan. Since childhood he was active in stage plays and acting. He also wrote plays during this period, though he was not serious. After finishing class 10, he stared dreaming about movies and film direction. But his family discouraged him and he entered film making only after his MBA.

He got a big ‘No’ from his father at first. His mother supported him. Later realizing his real passion, his father allowed him to work as assistant for his movies like In Harihar Nagar, Cobra, Tournament, Ghost House Inn etc. During this time, he made a cameo appearance in ‘Cobra’ also. During his first venture as a director, his father helped him a lot. The film thread was given to him by Aashiqbabu.
