Arvind Subramanian Biography 
Arvind Subramanian is an Indian economist, who has served as an economist at the International Monetary Fund, and also Chief Economic Adviser to the Government of India during 16 October 2014 to 20 June 2018 succeeding Raghuram Rajan. He was also a Senior Fellow at the Center for Global Development, and also Dennis Weatherstone Senior Fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. He is one of the most leading Indian economists of the present times, whose name has been included in the list of world's top 100 global thinkers by Foreign Policy magazine in 2011.
Arvind Subramanian was born in Chennai in 1959. He schooled from DAV Boy's Senior Secondary School, Chennai, and graduated from St Stephen's College, Delhi. He completed MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and M. Phil and D. Phil degrees from the University of Oxford on a scholarship. He served as Assistant Director in the Research Department of the International Monetary Fund, and has held many high profile posts as an economist. He closely worked with Raghuram Rajan while he was with IMF. He served at the GATT during the Uruguay Round of trade negotiations, and taught economics at several universities too.
He was appointed the Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) to Indian government in 2014, and he held that post for nearly 4 years. In fact he was given a year’s extension, though the term was for 3 years. He was responsible for bringing out the annual Economic Survey of India while serving this post. He has also authored many articles related to economics in different publications. He is married to Parul Subramanian. His elder brother V S Krishnan is a retired Indian Revenue Service Officer.
