Zameer Uddin Shah Biography 
Zameer Uddin Shah is a retired Lieutenant General of the Indian Army. He was associated with Indian army during 1968-2008. After retirement he served as Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University and also as an administrative member on the bench of the Armed Forces Tribunal. He is the brother of famous Indian film actor and theatre personality, Naseeruddin Shah. His son Mohommed Ali Shah, a former soldier is currently associated with the world of theatre and films in the role of an actor who mostly portrays supporting roles.
Zameer Uddin Shah was born on first anniversary day of Indian independence in 1948. He hails from Bahraich district, Uttar Pradesh. He is the elder brother of famous Indian actor, Naseeruddin Shah. Shah completed his studies from St Joseph's College, Nainital. He later completed two Master’s degrees in two subjects from different universities. He attended the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, Pune and was commissioned with 185-Light Regiment on 9 June 1968 at the age of 20. He later got promoted to many elite positions and also led Army during the Gujrat riots of 2002.
During his tenure as Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University from 2012-17, he has been embroiled in several controversies. In 2014 Allahabad High Court on Friday issued a notice to AMU over reports of the university denying a section of students’ access to its central library, calling it to be a gender biased decision. Before the decision, he remarked that granting access to undergraduate girls would invite "four times more boys" to the Maulana Azad Library, which led to controversies. Later too, he got embroiled in gender biased comments and decisions. Banning The Times of India at the university campus is yet another controversy. Supreme Court has issued notice on petition challenging his appointment.
