Savita Kovind Biography 
Savita Kovind is the currently First Lady of India, who has been serving this position since 25 July 2017. She was preceded by Suvra Mukherjee, wife of former President of India and politician Pranab Mukherjee. Savitha Kovind is the wife of Ram Nath Kovind, who currently serves as the 14th President of India, in office since 25 July 2017. When she became the First Lady of India, the space was unoccupied as Suvra Mukherjee died two years ago while serving in office. Both Savita Kovind and her husband are affiliated to the ruling party, Bharatiya Janata party. Like other first ladies of India, she is yet to make a mark in the role of an administrator.
Savita Kovind’s ancestral home is in Pakistan. Her parents originally lived near Lahore. They moved to India and settled in Delhi following the partition. She married politician Ram Nath Kovind in 1974. The couple has two children – a son (Prashant Kumar Kovind) and a daughter (Swati Kovind). Savita Kovind completed her studies in Delhi and became a government servant. She worked in Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) till her retirement. Started her career in MTNL as a telephone operator, she later became Chief Section Supervisor. She took voluntary retirement in 2005.
Though it’s an unofficial title given to the wife of serving President of India, First Lady of India always remains in limelight and they accompany their husbands in public functions. They also remain as supporters to their husbands. They also act as official hostess of the Rashtrapati Bhavan when functions and parties are arranged. In some cases, this role is passed over to daughters because of their ill health.
