Tikaram Meena Biography

Tikaram Meena is an IAS officer from Rajasthan who joined Kerala Cabre in 1988. He has been appointed as Kerala’s Chief Electoral Officer in 2018, and during 2019 Lok Sabha elections he remained in limelight for different reasons, and also earned wrath from politicians of different groups for the firm decisions he took – either it’s not using the name of Sabarimala for election campaign or launching cases against bogus votes in different polling stations of Malabar. Following his decisions to fight against CPI (M) and Muslim league for the filed cases of bogus votes, he is gaining popularity from people for taking decisions irrespective of party affiliations.

 

Tikaram Meena owns a very humble background. He was born into a poor and tribal family of Rajasthan. His brothers gave up their studies so that they can educate Meena. He has six siblings and had a tough childhood. His hamlet comprised of 15-20 houses very near to Ranthambore Tiger Reserve. Since young he has confronted with wild animals which made him strong and without fear. He was sent to school 4 kms away from home, when he was 7 years old. During those days, his lessons were mostly taken under a tree. The school had a single room only. Though he cleared pre-medical test didn’t join science. He got married at 15 and his wife is one year younger to him.

 

He has played his part to create awareness among voters to participate in elections, and even produced a music CD titled Thiranjedupp Geetham 2019, sung by K. S. Chithra. Its lyrics were penned by popular lyricist and IAS officer K Jayakumar. He has earlier worked for the Planning Commission of India and in the Economic Advisory Council of the Prime Minister. He began his professional career in Kerala as a sub-collector in Malappuram.
