D. Babu Paul Biography

D. Babu Paul was an Indian civil servant and writer from the state of Kerala. He was a member Ombudsman for local self-government institutions of state government during 2000–01. He has also served as Finance Secretary, Government of Kerala, who retired in the rank of Chief Secretary. He was also a member of Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board. He passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on 12 April 2019, one day after his 78th birthday. He was also an orator. His wife Anna Babu Paul was the former president of YWCA Trivandrum and secretary of The Trivandrum's Women Club and also a member of the Censor Board of Film Certification.

 

D. Babu Paul was born in Thiruvananthapuram on 11 April 1941. Both his parents were teachers. His father was a Jacobite priest. Paul remained a brilliant student in academics, and was an SSLC rank holder. Later he completed Civil Engineering from College of Engineering, state capital. He was a PhD in Management Studies. He secured 7th rank in the Civil Service Examination. He also had a brief career as a lecturer in civil engineering. Vice Chancellor of Kerala University, Chief Executive of State Road Transport Corporation, Project Coordinator, Idukki Hydel Project & District Collector and District Collector of Palakkad are some of the administrative positions held by him.

 

D. Babu Paul was also a writer, who published his first book at the age of 19. The book titled Oru Yathrayude Ormakal was published in 1962. In 2001 he published his autobiographical service story "Katha Ithuvare". He published the first Bible dictionary in Malayalam titled Veda Sabda Rathnakaran. He published more than 25 books in Malayalam, which include - Eee Muttathu Oru Mullassery Undayirunnu, luvappuzha Pinneyum Ozhukunnu, Socrateesum Sundaran Nadarum, Chila Cheria Valiya Karyangal, Ormakalku Seershakamilla, Viswasapramanagal Veekshanaviharangal, Bibililekkoru Kilivatil etc. He was a recipient of numerous awards and honorary doctorates.
