Valmik Thapar Biography 
Valmik Thapar is a natural historian and foremost among tiger conservationists. He is also known as an author and has produced a range of programmes including documentaries for television channels like BBC, Animal Planet, Discovery and National Geographic. He has also narrated several programs on Indian television. Today he is one of India's most respected wildlife experts and conservationists in India. His mother is Romesh Thapar, noted journalist and political commentator. He is married to actress and well known theatre personality, Sanjana Kapoor, a member of prestigious Kapoor family of Bollywood. Sanjana is the daughter of popular actor Shashi Kapoor and runs a theatre. The eminent historian Romila Thapar is his aunt and celebrated journalist, Karan Thapar is his cousin. Pran Nath Thapar, former Chief of Army Staff of the Indian army was his great uncle.
Valmik Thapar was born in New Delhi in 1952 to Raj and Romesh Thapar. He has played a significant role in wild life conservation of tigers in India and has spent decades on such efforts. He has authored books like Land of the Tiger: A Natural History of the Indian Subcontinent (1998). A few of his selected television works include - Tiger Crisis, Tigers’ Fortress, Danger in Tiger Paradise, Search for Tigers, Land of the Tiger and Overpopulation. His famous relationship with 'Macchli' a female tigress is documented in some of his chronicles.
His contributions have been associated with Ranthambore Foundation and Government of India recognized his work by appointing him as a member of the Tiger Task Force of 2005. But he openly criticized many of the views of the functioning body when it was time for the final report. Poaching, absence of science and hurdles to research posed by bureaucracies are a few among those critical areas he pointed at. He has critiqued Project Tiger, pondering his views on mismanagement.
