Nina Nayak Biography

Nina Nayak is a social worker and child rights activist from Dakshina Kannada for past three decades or so. She has been a driving force in the implementation of ‘Juvenile Justice Act’ and the ‘Protection of Children against Sexual Offenses Act’. Since 2009 she has been serving as Chairperson of Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, and completed more than a decade in this post. She has earlier held posts such as Chairperson Child Welfare Committee Bangalore, Vice-President of the Indian Council for Child Welfare, President Karnataka State Council for Child Welfare, Consultant to Community Health and Education Society and National Consultant to Child Rights and You. She has adopted two children.

 

Nina Nayak was born on 24 November 1953. She completed Master's degree in Social work with specialization in family and child welfare, before she turned a full-time social worker and child activist. She is graduated in Home Science. She later completed a certified course in Human Rights from IGNOU. She had a brief career in politics, though it was not successful. She joined Aam Aadmi Party in 2014 and contested general elections from Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency. She lost to Ananth Kumar of Bharatiya Janata Party.

 

After 2012 Delhi Rape, there was a debate on the Delhi Rape case judgment in a private channel, of which Nina Nayak and Kiran Bedi were a part of. She got "rapist sympathizer of juvenile" tag after the debate was aired. She is a child rights activist, and a person who has served various positions in national and state level to serve for child welfare. So she emphasized on proper upbringing of kids at the very beginning.
