Maveeran Alagumuthu Kone (1710–1759) was an early freedom fighter against the British presence in South India. He was born in Kattalankulam village in Tirunelveli district. He became a military leader in the town of Ettayapuram, and was defeated in battle there against the British and Maruthanayagam's forces and executed in 1759.
Every year the government of Tamil Nadu conducts a Pooja ceremony for Alagumuthu Kone. The former finance minister P. Chidambaram released a documentary film about Alagumuthu Kone in 2012
