Tanvi Azmi Biography 
Tanvi Azmi is a popular television actress. She has worked in movies in character roles too. She is the daughter of actress of yesterdays, Usha Kiran. She is married to Baba Azmi, cinematographer and brother of Shabana Azmi, thus connected with the Akhtar-Azmi film family. Her father is Dr. Manohar Kher. She is the heroine of Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s critically well acclaimed Malayalam movie – Vidheyan with Mammootty playing the leading role. The movie released in the year 1994 won National award for Mammootty for best actor.
Tanvi Azmi first appeared in a young widow in telefilm Rao Saheb in the year 1986. The short film was directed by Vijaya Mehta. Tanvi Azmi’s first successful program was Jeevan rekha telecasted on Doordarshan in 1991. She portrayed a troubled doctor in the tele-series. Before Jeevan Rekha (Life line), she worked in a couple of teleserials - Pyari Behna (1985) and Rao Saheb (1986). She has also worked in the television serials - Lohit Kinare and Mirza Ghalib in the year 1988. Her other popular television serials are Sinndoor Tere Naam Ka, Family No.1 and Zameen Aasmaan.
She has also worked in a few movies in supporting actress role. Movies are Yeh jawani hai diwani, Darr, Akele hum akele tum, Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, English, August, Dushman, Aurengazeb, Delhi 6, Anjana Anjani, Mod, Aks and Aarakshan. She received a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in film Akele Hum Akele Tum (1995). Tanvi played the role of kind neighbour in this movie.
Darr was one among the biggest hits of Tanvi Azmi. The movie starred Sunny Deol, Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla in the leading roles. Tanvi Azmi played the role of Anupam Kher’s wife in this movie. The famous holi song ‘Ang se ang lagake’ was pictured on herself and Anupam Kher, along with Juhi, Sunny Deol and Shah Rukh. She played a significant role in the movie as Juhi’s sister in law.
In Dushman, she played the role of Mrs. Poornima Sehgal, mother of Kajol sisters. English, August is the first movie of director Dev Benegal's first feature film. Tanvi Azmi played the role of Malti Srivastava in this movie. Most recently, Tanvi Azmi played Ranbir Kapoor's mother in Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, the blockbuster hit of 2013.
