Raza Murad Biography

Raza Murad is a veteran actor of Bollywood who appears on small screen as well. He is equally popular in negative and character roles. He has done more than 200 movies till now. His notable works include - Heena, Namak Haram, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Aankhen, Ram Lakhan, Prem Rog, Tridev, Mohra, Khud-Daar, Pyar Ka Mandir, Jodha Akbar, Ek hi rastha and Gupt: The Hidden Truth. He became a part of Bollywood industry during 1960’s and his most memorable roles are during 1980’s, where he established himself as one of the great villains of Bollywood.

 

During 1990’s, he entered television industry. Ghutan, telecasted on Doordarshan in 1995 where he played a leading business man needs a special note. Most recently, during the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, Murad courted controversy by taking a jibe at Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. He criticized Modi in a public function for not wearing a skull cap, similar to former chief ministers.

 

Raza Murad is the son of great character artist of yesterdays, Murali. He is also the first cousin of Zeenat Aman, famous Bollywood actress of 1970’s. Film actress Sonam, who is married to Bollywood director Rajiv Rai is his niece. Sanober Kabir, a less known face of Bollywood who has appeared in a few movies in leading role is also his niece.  

 

Raza Murad started his career in mid 60s. Yet it took years for Murad to become a well known actor. In 1973 blockbuster Namak Haram, he played the role of a poet, which happened to be one of his earliest noted performances. Raj Kapoor’s Ram Teri Ganga Maili in 1985 established him as a villain of Bollywood. After its success, he was mostly seen in negative roles. In 1997, he appeared as a poet in Gupt: The hidden truth. Highlight of this movie was ‘shayaris’ done by Raza Murad in comic sense, as per required situation. When ‘Best actor in negative category’ was started in prestigious Filmfare awards in 1991, he managed to get a nomination for his memorable performance in Henna.
