Narendra Modi Biography

Narendra Modi is the 15th and current Prime Minister of India. He is a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party who formerly served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for long 14 years since 2001. He is one of the prominent and powerful Indian leaders post Indian independence and expectations are many from this renowned leader.He represents Varanasi constituency at present. He led BJP from front in the 2014 general elections and managed to make an outstanding performance after 1984 Loksabha elections, when a single party managed to win the majority. He and his leadership have almost destroyed the arch rivals – Indian National Congress. He is also a Hindu Nationalist and a member of the RashtriyaSwayamsevakSangh. Though he has invited many controversies during his rule as Gujarat Chief Minister, through his outstanding leadership and development measures across the state, he provided a new path of development to his state and gained attention nationwide through his strategies.

He was born in a middle class family in Vadnagar in Mehsana district of Gujarat in 1950. His father was a tea seller at Vadnagar railway station and young Modi used to assist him. Modiran a tea stall with his brother near a bus terminus. He was an average student at school, though he was interested in debates and theatre.Modi came in contact with RSS at the young age of 8 and then he regularly used to attend their local meetings.Modi regards LakshmanraoInamdar, as his political guru and mentor, who inducted young Modi to Balswayamsevak. After that his growth in the party was at a steady path and pace and he became a very influential party leader soon.

He got married to JashodabenChimanlal at the tender age of 13. Modi never met his wife again as the ‘second marriage (Gauna)’ never happened. Some news reports that they have spent a brief time together when Modi reached 18. Modi’s public life was the main hindrance to their married life and both remains unmarried till now. This secret was revealed only during 2014 General elections, which was one of the well talked news. In a biographical work, it’s told that Modi left home at the age of 17. He wandered across North India, spending his life in many ashrams.

Once again he returned back and worked in a tea stall before he was called by LakshmanraoInamdar. He participated in anti-corruption movement NavNirmanafter joining ABVP. He became active in the mid-1980s and became General Secretary of the party. He was promoted to the National secretary post in 1998. He was appointed as the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 2001 and he currently holds the record of the longest serving Chief Minister of the state. He introduced many developmental schemes to the state and brought Gujarat to one of the path of most developing states.

He played a significant role in the re-construction of the state following Earthquake in 2001. The main challenge faced by him includes Gujarat riots which killed many people and Modi was accused of anti-Muslim conspiracy. In 2013, he was announced as the Prime Minister candidate of BJP. After the outstanding victory of BJP in General elections which witnessed the worst failure of INC, he assumed power as Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014 at the RastrapatiBhavan. He is the first Indian Prime Minister born after Indian independence. This great leader is known for his rigid policies and great leadership and Indian citizens have a huge expectation of this new leader. He has already made his distinct mark globally.
