Rasika Joshi Biography

Rasika Joshi was film and theatre personality known for supporting roles in Hindi and Marathi cinema. In Bollywood she is known for portraying Marathi ladies, the popular roles being Bhool Bhulayya, Vasthu Shatra, Ghayab, Ek hasina thi, Dhol, Billu, Malamaal Lottery, Darna zaroori hai, Johny gaddar, De thali etc. She has become a household name through Marathi serials such as 'Prapanch', 'Ghadlay bighadlay', 'Bua alaa' and Bandini. She plays positive, negative as well as comic roles. Ekta Kapoor's serial 'Bandini' was her most popular television role.

She reprised the role of K. P. A. C. Lalitha in Hindi remake of Malayalam blockbuster Manichitra Thazhu (1993) – Bhool Bhulayya (2007). She played Paresh Rawal’s wife in this movie. She has been regularly featured in Ram Gopal Varma and Priyadarshan movies and her first noticed Bollywood movie was Ek hasina thi. RGV’s Not a love story was her last onscreen appearance. The movie was released after her death. She died from leukemia in 2011, aged only 39. She has been fighting with the disease for the last 9 years. Joshi created a wonderful niche in TV world and films with her lively characters. She played the role of Neeraj’s mother in her last movie, ‘Not a Love Story’ and her condition was critical during the film shooting.

She was born in Mumbai on 12 September 1972 and she began her career as a stage actress through the play directed by Lata Narvekar. She was married to Girish Joshi. Though she has been battling with the disease for the past 9 years, the actress was positive and optimistic and was active in her field till her end. She has also scripted, directed and acted one play - White Lily & Knight Rider for which she received wide appreciation.
