Ramchandra Shukla Biography 
Ramchandra Shukla was an Indian scholar and writer belonging to Hindi literature. Hindi Sahitya Ka Itihaas is his masterpiece work, which was the first codifier of the history of Hindi literature in a scientific system after conducting research works. The work was published during 1928–29. He was one of the leading non-fiction Hindi writers in British era, and he gained fame as a historian, scholar, writer as well as critic. He also authored a few novels. Shukla lived during the period, 4 October 1884 – 2 February 1941 in present state of Uttar Pradesh.
Ramchandra Shukla was born in Basti of British India on 4 October 1884. The place now belongs to Uttar Pradesh, then a part of North-Western Provinces. His father Chandrabali Shukla was a reputed revenue inspector. He was taught Hindi, English and Urdu at his house by qualified teachers before he was admitted to school. For advanced studies he moved to Allahabad, where he continued with his research works and literal journey.
Through his research works, he traced the genesis of Hindi poetry and prose since the 6th century and its development over the years, till 20th century. He opposed feudal and courtly literature, as it failed to give the true sketch of common man life existed then. He also authored literary criticism works like Kavita Kya Hai. As a scholar and writer, he is best remembered for his classic work, Hindi Sahitya Ka Itihaas. Shukla translated Edwin Arnold's The Light of Asia into Buddha Charit, in Brij Bhasha (a dialect of Hindi) and also Ernst Haeckel's The Riddles of Universe into Vishwa Prapanch, by adding his own thoughts as preface. Acharya Shukla taught at Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi from 1937 until his death in 1941.
