Bhandaru Acchamamba Biography 
Bandaru Acchamamba, also pronounced as Bhandaru Acchamamba was one of the early historians and feminists among Telugu speaking people. She was an activist who lived a short life during 1874 – 1905. She has also written many books which include biographies of Telugu and British women, for which she is known most. She set a benchmark among historians, and many future generations call her as an inspiration. The works of Acchamamba include Dhana Trayodasi, Abaala Saccharitra Ratnamala, Beeda Kutumbam, Khana and Satakam. She traveled extensively and has got into discussions with many scholars in the different parts of the country. She also wrote columns. Noted historian Komarraju Venkata Lakshmana Rao was her younger brother.
Bandaru Acchamamba was born in 1874 in Penuganchiprolu in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh. She belonged to a remote village and was born as the daughter of a Diwan. She lost her father at the age of 6. She was married to her maternal uncle, Bhandaru Madhava Rao at the age of ten. She moved to his family at the age of 17. Her husband didn’t promote education of women. Before she moved to her husband’s home, she had mastered four Indian languages from her younger brother Komarraju Venkata Lakshmana Rao, who later earned fame as a historian. After he left for studies, she also learnt Bengali, Gujarati and a little bit Sanskrit through self-learning.
She gave birth to two kids, but lost both of them. Due to personal grievances she adopted five orphans. She established the first women's association in Coastal Andhra - Brindavana Streela Samaajam, along with two more female activists. She also authored many books within a brief period. She was only 30 years old when she passed away in 1905.
