Madan Puri was an actor of Hindi and Punjabi movies, most known for negative roles. His most memorable roles are included in a segment of the golden era of Hindi cinema and a few of noted films are Aaradhana, Kati Patang, Aamne Saamne, Deewar, Dulhan Wohi Jo Piya Man Bhaye, Sawaal, Naukar biwi ka, Mazdoor, Upkaar, Poorab Aur Paschim, Benaam, Anurag, Amar Prem, Chor Machaye Shor, The burning train, Agar tum na hote, Painter babu, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Bidaai, Hero, Mein awara hoon, Bade dilwale, Vidhata, Rajtilak, Awaaz, Ankhiyoh Ke Jharokhon se, Swayamvar, Pyaasa sawan, Kranti, Pyaas, Jhoothi, Radha Aur Seeta, Bandish, Ghazab, Avtaar, Andha kanoon, Yodh, Mashaal, Baazi, Babu, The great gambler, Khel mohabbat ka, Prem Geet and Ek baar kaho. He has worked with Amitabh Bachchan as villain in many blockbuster hits of 70’s and 80’s.

Madan Lal Puri, popularly known as Madan Puri was born in Lahore, Punjab, British India in the year 1915. His parents were S. Nihal Chanda Puri and Ved Kaur. He had 4 siblings, Chaman Lal Puri, Amrish Lal Puri, Harish Lal Puri and a younger sister, Chandrakanta Mehra. He was the second of 4 siblings. His younger brother, Amrish Lal Puri, most popularly known as Amrish Puri was one of the great villains of Indian screen, whose most memorable role is Mogambo of Mr. India. He was the first cousin of the legendary singer K.L. Saigal. This great singer has helped him a lot to enter Bollywood industry. After Madan Puri got established in the industry he helped his younger brother Amrish Puri who later became more popular villain than his elder brother Madan.

Madan Puri debut film world with the movie Ahimsa in 1946. After that he did more than 300 films in variety of roles – as a villain, father, uncle, inspector, grandfather and many more. He died in 1985 of a heart attack at the age of 69.
