Kunal Deshmukh Biography

Kunal Deshmukh is a successful Bollywood director who is known for the long term association with Emraan Hashmi. He comes from Mahesh Bhatt’s camp and has given Emraan the most memorable role of his career, which brought him out of his ‘bad boy’ or ‘serial kisser’ image. The movie was Jannat (2008), which earned Emraan critics’ appreciation. He repeated the success with its sequel too, titled Jannat 2 released in 2012. Both these movies were huge cash collectors at box office and remembered for the memorable performance of its lead actor. Though both these movies end in tragic death of lead hero, the movies stay alive in audience’ hearts for the fine capture of the last moments and its surprise climax. His directorial venture Tum Mile and his upcoming movie, Raja Natwarlal too starred Emraan in the lead role. He has worked as an assistant director for Woh Lamhe and Emraan movies like Zehar and Kalyug.    

Kunal was born in Mumbai on March 4, 1982. After doing an advertising course at H.R. College, he moved abroad to learn about movie making. He studied a film making diploma course in US. He met Mohit Suri through a common friend who suggested him to join Mahesh Bhatt’s camp as an assistant director. He has been associated with a series of Mahesh Bhatt’s production ventures like Zeher, Kalyug, Woh Lamhe etc. All these movies were directed by Mohit Suri.

His debut movie, Jannat was produced by Mukesh Bhatt and it told about match fixing of cricket matches. Lead roles were played by Emraan Hashmi and Sonal Chauhan and its music by Pritam was also highly appreciated. It was the first movie of Emraan’s career which broke his usual image of a flirting guy. The movie earned 50 crore rupees and was declared as a super hit. But his second movie, Tum Mile based on Mumbai floods of 2005 was a disaster. But its music was highly appreciated. He gained momentum with his third release, Jannat 2. At present, he is a hotelier too who has opened a dining restaurant named Trikaya at Bavdhan, Pune.
