His uncle is director Mahesh Bhatt and his cousins are Emraan Hashmi, Alia Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt. Smilie Suri of Kalyug fame is his sister and he is the director of this movie as well.  Mohit is married to Udita Goswami, the actress of his debut movie Zeher. Apart from these movies mentioned above, other directorial ventures of Mohit Suri include Zeher (his debut movie as a director), Woh Lamhe, Crook and Awarapan. Except Crook, all his movies as a director are box office hits as well. Except Aashique 2, Emraan Hashmi, his cousin played the leading role in all these movies as well. He has also written the scripts of Crook, Raaz – The Mystery Continues, Zeher and Kalyug.

He started his career as an assistant director and worked for movies, Footpath, Kasoor and Awara pagal Deewana. Zeher released in the year 2005, with Emraan Hashmi, Shamitha Shetty and Aditi Goswami in leading roles was his debut movie. This thriller collected money from box office as well, thus declaring it a hit. It was one of the best performances of Hashmi and Aditi up to date. Emraan showed brilliant performing skills in 2006 movie Awarapan as well. This movie was both a critical and commercial success and marked the debut of South Indian actress Shriya Sharan in Bollywood.  His second released movie was Kalyug, before Aawarapan where he launched his sister as leading actress. Following the success of Zeher, Kalyug and Awarapan, he directed Crook with Emraan Hashmi once again. The theme of the movie was based on the racial attacks on Indian students in Australia. But the movie was not accepted by audience though it was a fresh subject. Up to date, the sequel of Aashique is his most successful movie. He was able to deliver a movie up to expectations and the movie was well received too, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Aditya Roy Kapoor in leading roles.
