Kanaka Biography

Kanaka is a popular South Indian actress who was most active in the industry during 90’s. She has acted maximum movies for Malayalam and Tamil movies and has done a few in other south Indian languages as well. She is the daughter of successful actress of yesterdays – Devaki and her father is Devdas.

Kanaka started acting at the age of 16. Her debut movie was ‘Karagattakaran’ released in the year 1989. This movie based on the Tamil rural dance Karagattam and she played opposite Ramarajan. The movie was a blockbuster that ran for more than one year. Then she starred with many major stars like Prabhu, Karthik, Rajnikanth, Sarath Kumar, Vijayakanth etc.

She debut Malayalam with the movie – Godfather directed by Siddique-Lal. This movie was declared an all-time hit movie in Kerala and ran for 434 days, a record still to be broken. She has also acted in successful movies like Golanthara vaartha opposite Mammootty and Vietnam Colony opposite Mohan Lal. Vietnam Colony was directed by the directors who gave the first break to Malayalam industry. Her other Malayalam movies are Kusrithi kurup, Vasudha, Ezhara ponnana, Vardhakya Puranam, Narasimham and Pingami. Years later, she worked in the movie Manthri Kochamma, the film title coined from the hit song of her debut movie – Godfather. She was last seen in Malayalam movie Narasimham – an all time blockbuster (year 2000) where she played the role of Mohan Lal’s sister.

Her best Tamil movies are Karagattakaran, Thangamana Rasa, Athisaya piravi, Durga, Purushan Enakku Arasan, Makkal Kural, Saaththaan Sollai Thattaathe and Thalattu Kekkuthamma. She has also acted in Telugu movie - Valu jada Tolu Beltu.

Kanaka married Muthuraman, a mechanical engineer from California in 2007. But he went missing after 15 days of their marriage and she said that someone in the film industry was behind it. Later she claimed that it was her father. Most recently her stories of cancer and death spread like wide fire through social networking sites. Later she came before the media to prove the news to be wrong.
