Kalabhavan Shajon Biography

Kalabhavan Shajon is a noted character artist and comedian of Malayalam cinema, who shot to fame playing the role of cruel police constable in Malayalam all-time blockbuster Dhrishyam in 2013. He received Kerala state Special Jury Award for Drishyam, apart from many other awards. He was most recently seen in Akku Akbar’s comedy entertainer, Ulsaha Committee where he played the role of Babumon, one among the three main leads. The next two roles are played by Jayaram and Baburaj. With Dhrishyam, he surprised the whole audience when the actor known for comic roles, exhibited his talent in portraying grey shaded roles too. Praise the Lord, Ring Master, Black Forest and Mannar Mathai Speaking 2 are his latest releases. Now he is busy with many projects.

 

Shajon belongs to Kottayam. His real name is Shaji John. His father is late M. J. John, a retired A.S.I and his mother is a retired nurse. He started his career as a mimicry artist. His brother is also a mimicry artist. Shajon married Deny in 2004 and he has 2 children. It was a love marriage. They met for the first time at a rehearsal camp in Ernakulam in 2003. He made his mimicry debut by imitating the legendary theatre artist, N. N. Pillai. He first joined the troupe owned by Mangalam Daily. Later he joined Joined Jocks India, owned by the established Kalabhavan, Kochi. He entered in the vacancy of Kalabhavan Navaz who entered film field then and stay there for long 7 years as a performing artist. He has also performed mimicry with senior actor, Dileep.

 

In 1999, he made her film debut with ‘My Dear Karadi’ in which he played the role of a dupe of a bear.  Ee Parakkum Thalika in 2001 was his first noticed role in which he played the comic role of a traffic police. Later he played character roles in Bamboo boys, Nammal, Sadanandante Samayam, CID Moosa, Runway, Rasikan, Achanuragatha Veedu, Chanthupottu, Pachakuthira, Inspector Garud, Crazy Gopalan, Paappi appacha, In Ghost House Inn, Marykkundoru Kunjaadu etc. He played police constable’s role in maximum number of movies. However the role of Police Constable Sahadevan brought him to limelight, though he has been a part of Malayalam industry for about 15 years. He received TTK Prestige-Vanitha Film Awards and Ujala Asianet Film Awards for Best Actor in a Villain Role for Drishyam.
