Indira Jaising Biography 
Indira Jaising is an advocate of the Supreme Court of India and a human rights activist too. She is the co-founder and trustee of Lawyers Collective. In 2018 she was ranked 20th in the list of 50 Greatest Leaders of the World by Fortune magazine. She has been involved with many human rights cases, which she won through jurisdiction. She is the first woman senior advocate to be designated by the Bombay High Court, the first Indian woman to be elected to the U.N. Committee on Elimination of Discrimination against Women, and also the first woman to be appointed Additional Solicitor General. Her husband Anand Grover is a senior lawyer known for legal activism in Indian law relating to homosexuality and HIV.
Indira Jaising was born in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She spent her childhood days in Mumbai where she completed her school education. Later she completed graduation from Bangalore University and law studies from University of Bombay. She got married to the lawyer, Anand grover, who is also a social activist. They together founded Lawyers Collective in 1981, a NGO devoted to feminist and left-wing causes. She was designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Bombay in 1986. She is the first woman to achieve this feat.
As a feminist and human rights activist, she argued for women rights in many cases. Mary Roy's case is one among the best instances, which led to the landmark judgement of grant of equal inheritance rights for Syrian Christian women in Kerala. High-profile Rupan Deol Bajaj case, also known as ‘The Butt-Slapping Case’ is yet another instance, which remained in the media limelight for many years. She has represented the victims of the Bhopal tragedy in the Supreme Court of India for their claims for compensation from the company.
