How To Reach Ooty By Train

The narrow gauge mountain train runs between Mettupalayam and Ooty. Mettupalayam is the nearest railway station which is connected to all the important cities by broad gauge. From Mettupalayam, you can catch a bus or the mountain train. This mountain train has been announced as the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The train covers a distance of 42 kilometers. The train runs slowly and passes through 16 tunnels, 250 bridges and many stations that include Kallar, Adderly, Hillgrove, Runneymede, Kateri Road, Coonoor, Wellington, Aruvankadu, Ketti and Lovedale and reaches Ooty. It takes nearly 5 hours for the journey.

How To Reach Ooty By Road

Ooty is connected by road to all major nearby cities like Mettupalayam, Coimbatore, Erode, Mysore, Bangalore, Mangalore, Coorg, Madurai, Kodaikanal, etc. There are many sharp hairpin bends on the way to Ooty.

The road from Mysore to Ooty passes though the forest regions of Bandipur and Mudhumalai. There are two routes from Mudhumalai to Ooty. The road route from Tamil Nadu passes through Mettupalayam, Annur and Coonoor. The Gundalpet Highway or NH 181 connects these places.

Such a wonderful place of serenity!

I was gifted to be born and brought up in Ooty. But I am not fortunate enough to live there when i want to. I long for the life in Ooty. I can remember each and every day of my life in Ooty. It has cast a spell on me. My life now is rich with the memories of the place and my stay there. How I wish to live there!
