Coimbatore Travel Guide

Coimbatore is the second largest city in Tamil Nadu and is close to the nearby states Karnataka and Kerala; therefore there are many local folks of these states. The moment I think of Coimbatore, I can visualize the main Gandhipuram Street filled with silk textile outlets. You can find a wide range of silk saris in their purest form and at the cheapest prices. Many people travel here just to purchase silk saris and other apparel which are ideal for cultural ceremonies.

Coimbatore is also well known for educational institutions especially for engineering and other applied sciences. Many prospective students along with their parents pay a visit here to ensure educational possibilities, and are usually not disappointed due to the availability of wide varied courses. There are also many universities here which grants affiliations and research works to the scholars.

Branded as "Manchester of Tamil Nadu", Coimbatore aka Kovai embraces the hustle and bustle of fast-paced life. The city is always full of action and movement since it is literally the second best place after Chennai as far as commercial activities are concerned. This city is crowded with travelers especially in summers due to the close proximity to the most sought after places like Ooty, Coonoor, and Palani. Ooty and Coonoor are some of the best hill stations in India and attract a large number of visitors every year.

Besides, Coimbatore itself is the city of temples and has many temples to visit. Dhyanalingam is one such place. It is the temple of Lord Shiva in the form of huge lingam where the devotees light the deepam and enchant the praises of lord Shiva. There is also a meditation auditorium where the devotees seek inner peace and tranquility. Accommodation is also available for disciples who wish to stay for longer period of time.  Devotees offer fully blossomed lotus to the feet of Lingam and pray for the prosperity of oneself and others. A pool of holy water with a natural fountain can be found here, where disciples bathe before entering the sacred pool. It is said to have rejuvenating abilities and heal most physical and mental ailments. One can treat his soul in absolute solitude.

Cuisine in Coimbatore is a mixture of many states and in fact a unique blend which is simple awesome. You can find all types of cuisine and accommodation here. There are varied hotels and lodging catering to diverse needs of the visitors. It has an airport which makes it even more comfortable to the prospective tourists abroad. This is the main reason as to why many people who wish to visit Ooty and Coonoor fly here.

The climate here is not as hot as found in other tropical places inside Tamil Nadu however this fact has an exception during the summer when mercury soars high. However, the cool breeze coming across from the nearby hills and mountains make up for some heat. Altogether, the climate is not extremely harsh and it is a touch pleasant and pacifying to travel around.
