Agra Travel Guide
The beautifully famous city of Agra is located on the banks of the Yamuna River in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This is the city that’s famous for one of the wonders of the world – the Taj Mahal. But there is more to this city both in terms of its history and places of interest for the tourists than that. The city of Agra derived its present status under the rule of the Mughal Dynasty even though the region was active as a political hub from the days of the classical epic of Mahabharata. There have been intermittent rulers and dynasties that have held this city as the seat of their rule and authority before it finally came down to the Mughals.
One of the main nearby attractions in Agra for which tourists flock to the city is to see the Taj Mahal that is also the mausoleum of Mumtaz Mahal. This is a beautiful structure that’s made from white marble and has a main structure surrounded by four minarets on all four sides. It is also complemented with landscaped gardens and fountains to augment the beauty of the place even further.
The city of Agra is also known for some of the unique architectural feats of the Mughal era in India in the form of forts. Among these is the Red Fort that is also known as the Agra Fort. It was by the Mughal Emperor Akbar in the year 1565. There have been several renovations that have been done to it ever since. This is a unique structure created of sandstone and stands even today as an impregnable fort.
Then there is the fort at Fatehpur Sikri. This too was built by Emperor Akbar at a distance of 35 kilometers from Agra. One of the unique aspects of the fort is that this is a complete planned city within the walls. This was built when the emperor had moved his capital city here. This is also the fort with the greatest doorways that’s well known as Buland Darwaza. Another impressive architecture here is the Jama Masjid mosque that was built in 1648. There is the beautiful Ram Bagh that was built by the first Mughal Emperor Babar on the banks of the Yamuna River. It is a beautiful collection of flowers to see in a landscaped garden.
You can also visit the tomb of Itimad-ud-daulah, Emperor Akbar and Nur Jahan that are all here and are also excellent works of art. There is an intricate artistry that will be seen in the marble work of these structures. There are several hotels that are available at Agra. You will have some of the best names in luxury comfort as well as budget Agra hotels that are also affordable.
If you are wondering how to reach Agra, do not worry, you can easily communicate with the airport and railway stations at Agra which has regular flights and trains scheduled to different parts of the country. Agra travel guide gives you all these details.
